Parental Control suggestions for laptop with usage capping

DS1 is getting a laptop for christmas. At the moment he is allowed to use the home pc, and we don't use any apps/security software to control that specifically. We are just 'about' in person so to speak, so tell him when to get off it, and keep an eye on what he is doing.

His new laptop will be in his bedroom though. Therefore I can't keep a close eye like I have done before.

His new laptop has mcAfee on it (trial version) and I've just set that up, but whilst you can set the hours he is allowed to use it, I can't see anywhere to set up a maximum number of hours per day, which is also what I want to do (so he's allowed to use it between 8am and 8.30am on Sunday for instance, but I want a cap on the amount of hours e.g. 2 hours only)

I have been browsing, but it would be good to have opinions from folk who use such a thing, whether as part of security software, or as a stand alone product.

I don't need it to do much else apart from obviously block dodgy sites, which it seems most of them are set up to do anyway.

(and that should read between 8am and 8.30pm on a Sunday - there's not a lot of point putting a 2 hour cap on a half hour window!)

Check the settings on your router. I can do all that as well as restrict websites and other activity during homework hours

Windows 10 has this built in. You can set screen time allowed, track activity etc support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4028244

As TwoBlueFish says, Windows 10 has it built in; failing that I now use Qustodio - considered one of the best, plus it gives you more control than Windows 10's built-in system.

How old is he?
