I'll be going on holiday to Cumbria soon, and told that only EE sim cards work where I'll be. Does this mean I won't be able to RECEIVE calls from people on other networks?

If only EE work where you're going and you don't have an EE sim card you won't be able to receive any calls or messages unless WiFi calling/messaging is enabled.

Cross networking is only supported for making emergency (999) calls.

You might find your network has patchy signal though so pre-warn people so you can receive the odd text rather than missing them entirely.

If your phone isn't locked into a provider, it's easy enough to pick up s PAYG ee SIM card with a csll/text/data bundle so you're not completely disconnected from the outside world.

Thanks for useful information so far, but I didn't explain clearly enough. I will get an EE sim for myself, but will people at home, on different networks, be able to text me?

Yes, other people will be able to contact you from home :)
