I have taken the Sim out, gently shaken it to get any excess water I can out of the ports and it is now in a bowl with a couple of silca gel sachets I swiped from the dog treats and some easy cook rice!!! Is there any chance of it coming back from the brink or is it gone for good?

Yes but do not try to switch it on for 24-48hrs longer the better
Put in a lidded box
Completely cover in rice
And wait as long as you can.

DD did this and was utterly bereft. It worked after two days in rice, despite her not switching it off immediately.

It sometimes goes a bit skewiff but a few hours back in the rice sorts it out. She did notice a difference in sound quality for a few days afterwards but that fixed itself.

Mine went in too and I put it in a closed tub with rice for 2 days and it's been absolutely fine since! Good luck!!!

Thanks will transfer to closed tub. I can't turn it off as touch screen isn't responding. However, my alarm to remind me to take medication went off which is promising I hope!!!!

Don't charge it as well for a couple of days. Sorry if that sounds stupid but it's what I did and the electricity mixed with water is a bad move!

The SIM should be fine, though. My old Nokia about eight years ago got a thorough 40 degree wash which killed the phone, but the SIM is still working through three further phones.

I've recently acquired my first smartphone(!) but keep the old one in reserve for backup/kitchen timer/alarm clock.

I have a bag of silica gel crystals with coloured marker crystals to tell me when they need drying out again; I keep some in the box where my dressmaking shears are stored. I don't always have rice in the cupboard.

Rice!
