Ds (first year at uni) has set up a website. He owns the domain name, content, I think is owned by each person who writes the article. He uses Wordpress. The site went live this week, 300 hits the first day, 700 the second day. He was on to me this morning worried about if people commented anything that could cause a problem.
He asks for content and so gets the opportunity to vet the iarticle, the problem would be with the comments which is the main part of the site. He is trying to get young people engaged so their will be contentious comments. Does he have responsibility for what other people write? How should he/we handle this?

No he doesn't. However, if someone complains that they have been libelled by a comment he needs to remove it promptly. There is a good summary here.

The fact that he vets articles prior to publishing them means that he needs to be careful. He could be held personally liable if the article libels someone. If content is published automatically without his intervention his liability would be the same as for comments.

Thank you. That's very interesting. I will let him know. The site is meant to encourage discussion and controversy but not to the extent of anyone getting into trouble.
