Im looking for the perfect solution - I want something like openDNS, which will block sites for all devices from a central control. But I want to allow the three adults in the house to access whatever they want, possibly with a password?

Its got to allow access to proxy servers, because i want to be able to watch crap american TV. Blush But I want to block porn sites, some social media sites. Might even want to block certain access at certain times - like facebook after 10pm.

Does such a product exist, I dont need it to be free but I do need it to be simple to set up and maintain.

Help anyone please. I want the same sort of thing- or even something by device, I'm at a bit of a loss don't know what I should be doing to moderate what is available on big bad internet. Kids are 13 and 11 and just beginning to be aware of all sorts!

Bump

I definitely most want to restrict general access after devices off time

OK, I have a solution IF you have the right router.

Netgear have a product called genie - allows you to set up controls on the router and restrict by time/site etc, but also allow the adults to have access....

www.netgear.com/home/discover/apps/genie.aspx

I understand that Virgin Media (which runs off netgear) are rolling out a product that will do similar...(but of course DH is away and he has the password somewhere....)

Even on a normal netgear router, you can set some parental controls - access the router (should be printed on the back - probably via 192.168.0.1) and its in the settings category - our basic setting allows us to restrict by key word.

However if you or the kids use a proxy server to bypass content restrictions on eg movies and TV, it doesn't work. Grrr. SO Im still searching for the holy grail of internet protection, but the netgear genie does seem to hit most of the buttons (if you have a netgear router).

all this of course makes me look like I know what Im talking about.... Hmm Grin
