I want to set up my own website. I am totally clueless.

So far from reading past threads I have gleaned the following;

WordPress /go daddy/ I something?

But you can combine these? How? Why are they different?

.com is a generic TLD, always has been; it's not a country code TLD.

I think the point being made was that commercial users are expected to use .com or .co.uk (rather than .org.uk) but also use .co

PRH put the 'classic' definitions where there are plenty of others using .net, for example (one domain firm was allowing registration of .com and .net yesterday night at $1 for the first year)

What's not been mentioned is that there are now lots of new alternatives (from .london and other geographic names, to .associates .consulting .engineering .florist .guru and hundreds more)

Some may be on special introductory pricing at certain registration firms (eg 1and1.co.uk, godaddy.com, etc) for the first year, but pricing can be high (eg .luxury around 500 quid, but then again that's perhaps the most expensive, and only to be expected).

That last post seems to be perfect sales blurb.

Perhaps the creator of that website (I just took a quick look and it seems like every site linked to is an affiliate link - ie there's some sort of payment made if one clicks a link and signs up for the service)...

I only mention it looks that way because it seems like a set of bullet points (less the bullets but withall the exclamation marks - the type of enthusiasm and hype only someone marketing hard throws in!)

If a link says something like www.xyz.com/affID=spammer then I'd just type in www.xyz.com (which gets the same website, but skips the spammer getting any commission).
