My PC has died. What should I replace it with?

No idea of what is better!
Do I replace with a new tower drive, and if so what would you recommend. Or should I be looking at getting a laptop?

We have a built in work station and all the other stuff (keyboard, monitor, etc) is fine.

If you always use it in the one place and don't have a need to move it about then a tower is best, you get more for your money and if something breaks its cheaper to replace. Works out cheaper if you can reuse the monitor and keyboard.

Thanks - that's what I was thinking.

Just need to decide that kind of tower. Would a Intel core i5 or i7 be better? No gaming or streaming films just MNing internet surfing/schoolwork,etc.

It really depends what you want the PC for, and how you like to use it.
Tower or desktop PCs come with the advantages cdtaylornats mentions. If you want a workstation type setup for ease of use, and you'd rather the PC was in one place (eg if you need to keep an eye on your children), desktop PCs are one choice.

You can also buy all in one PCs where the main body of the PC is tucked behind the screen. Very neat looking.

A laptop is a good choice if you want to move around with the PC. They are lightweight, take up little space, and are a bit easier to find in the shops than a tower PC.

A core i5 would be fine.

Just bought a Lenovo 500 GB (1 TB also available for extra £30) for £199! Built in wifi. Fast processor. Great out of the box. Windows 8 which is a bit confusing but pretty. Pc world lady was surprised at all it had for such a low price.

My advice would be if you are getting a laptop, please don't get HP pavilion.

It crashes all the time. I realised that I was not the only one with similar problem after checking for what to do on the internet.

I sent it to have it checked with PC world. It was quick and easy.
It had a two year warranty. A month after the two years it crashed completely.

I had to pay £50 twice for repays.

I have promised my self never to buy their computers of laptops.

If cost my £600. I would rather save next time and buy something I don't have to restart all the time. Or heats up constantly. Even when it's elevated.

Thanks for all the advice/suggestions. I am just waiting to see if the hard-drive can be backed-up...

I think I will go for a new tower with an Intel core i5, perhaps like this or this - if anyone has any thoughts on them they would be gratefully received!

Actually, I think this might be the one.
