Has anyone got a digital pen?

And do you love it or hate it?

I'm toying with the idea of getting one of these to save time typing up meeting notes etc...

Any thoughts welcome. I only found out that these existed last week, and can't tell if they are as brilliant as I desperately want them to be or not Grin

I've looked at these on and off. Met a lady who used a live scribe pen at educational meetings and raved about it. She took audio notes too.

However ive to it taken the plunge as I can take typed notes on my iPad ( I have the apple keyboard but often don't use it) quickly enough these days and I add references to resources on the web or photos of projected slides at times too.

Are you sure you can't type things straight into a device just as fast?

I probably could Theas, but it's still not the done thing to type in most of the meetings I attend. Perhaps that will change though... Good point.

My DM has a pen similar to this. She uses it to write notes but it records the conversation too. She then taps the pen on an area of notes and it will play the relevant part of the conversation.

She loves it. I think it's some kind of voodoo magic pen Grin

Think she'd love a digital pen, I like that you don't need the special paper, think that would be an expensive commitment, although I don't know how much she pays for it...

I have one for work reasons and it's fine but not fantastic. I find the more you use it the more it gets used to your handwriting and it translates the text pretty well. We have to use it on special paper as that is how the text is recognised. To be honest I find the most convenient way of transcribing information now is to do a voice recording on my phone which I then email to myself cut and paste the text on to the relevant documentation. That is by far quicker than my digital pen.

Reviews on amazon for that one aren't good...

Yeah, I saw the reviews... Although for the older model they are really good. Confusing.

What software do you use to convert speech to type, kerpob? I've had difficulty with the iphone notes app in the past. Do you record the whole meeting?

Actually, I'm not sure that would work for me, as I'm often writing thoughts/ideas rather than just recording what is said, IYSWIM.

I use the speech recorder on my iPhone/iPad. I just verbally summarise the meeting myself from written notes taken roughly. The digital pen doesn't really fit this task well as I need to record in "proper" sentences so it's too laborious to do that contemporaneously during the meeting.

We are having a digipen at work for recording our monthly statistics.
We were supposed to be trained how to use it last week but it wouldn't connect to the server. Or something Confused
