DD has to finish a powerpoint presentation for hwk. I've managed to save it to our desktop but we can only view it.
We don't have powerpoint and it looks costly. Am thinking of downloading libreoffice. Does anyone know if I can download libreoffice, open the half done powerpoint or copy and paste into the libreoffice version, edit the presentation in libreoffice, then save as a ppt to e:mail to school?
Hope that makes sense?

I didn't know LibreOffice, but just looked at it, and I guess it COULD be possible as you suggest, assuming LO outputs to PP standards.

Make sure all the elements are SAVED as you go along.

Alternatively, do the text, pictures, and other elements in a Windows program (Word, or similar), so that all the items are there, and Saved.

Then, could she take to school on a memory stick, and do the final editing and assembly of elements at school?

You don't say what Yr group DD is, but one of the biggest PP errors is to make it too 'fancy' with twirling text etc. Clean, accurate, well balanced, with text large enough to read if projected, not too many fonts (ideally two or three), suitable pictures, graphics, and consistent colours throughout looks more professional, than gimmicks and 'fireworks' that make the viewer dizzy!

(But maybe kids like a bit of 'fireworks' and think looking 'professional' isn't cool!)

I would use Google Drive - if you upload the Powerpoint you will have an option to convert it to Google's native format (called Google Slides) and then when you've finished, you can email it directly from Google Slides (choosing to send it as a PPT) or download it as a PPT and then email it from your usual email programme.

Open Office is good (and free) and most of the time converts pretty well from microsoft. Search "open office download" or "apache open office"

My suggestion was to complete on Word, but needless to say it met with resistance. Thanks for your help and suggestions, I will look into them. If I can't sort something she'll have to stay at school and do it.

Tribpot - your suggestion has worked a treat-thanks!

Good stuff - might be worth reminding the school that most people don't have access to Powerpoint and they should provide guidance on how to complete this kind of homework.

I know what their guidance would be...go to homework club. My suggestion to DD as well but will she go? Of course she won't! It would make my life so much easier-sigh
