Hi all

I currently have a Samsung s2. I also have an ipad and ipod so familiar with apple

My Samsung is starting to fail so think I need new phone so find myself at the above crossroads

Any advice on which to choose? I would like a decent camera and memory space as I expect the latter to become more important to me. My current Samsung concerns are the battery life (if you get a new one it still doesn't seem great) - has this improved? Not sure how much integrating I would do (eg happy with music on ipod rather than needing on phone too) although I guess easy photo transfer would be useful. Don't want a tiny screen

Not really looking for later / latest models as not prepared to pay that price

Any thoughts??

Thanks

Interesting choice of two phones you have given as options. Was there any reason for those two, they're not exactly comparable.

What kind of budget, screen size, features are you looking for?

Thanks for response!

ummmmm suppose looking at models that have been out for a little while but not ages so comparable in terms of £ and not being the very latest model

Good camera? decent screen size but not huge (s2 size!), about £25 perweek, long battery life...

does that help or am I missing vital things?

Do you mean £25 per month? Week you can pretty much anything you want lol

If I were in your shoes I would go with the Samsung Galaxy S4. It's similar size to the S2 but much faster.

If it's the battery life you are worried about then they're all about the same nowadays. Except with the Samsung's you can buy an additional battery and charger unlike the iphone. That's what me & my kids do. It's especially useful for long journeys like holidays and the kids are watching films on their phone.

I'd try looking at Carphone Warehouse, often you can get pretty new phones on a £25 per month contract, although up front cost might be a bit higher than on a bigger contract (CW usually undercut the networks though) . Having said that, don't forget that £5 per month cheaper on a 24 month contract is worth £120, so always worth checking the overall deal cost.

I switched from an iPhone 4 to a samsung s4 mini and regret it. The factory settings it comes with e.g the samsung launcher are horrible but customising the phone to make it look and feel nice is something I've not had the time or energy to deal with. I'm going to need a lot of help to make it feel right for me. Don't even get me started on the widgets.

With the iPhone it's obv all done for you - just plug in and go. Clearly there's less you can do with an iPhone but frankly I prefer not having the choice.

On the plus size the Samsung has a nice big screen, the camera is good (tho picture quality quickly diminishes on zoom).

The other massive minus for me is the shocking battery life 6-8 hours max from a full charge only doing light browsing despite being on energy saving mode and turning off location services. Charging it back to 100% takes longer than my iPhone too.

I think fundamentally I'm an iPhone person and I'm always going to struggle with this samsung.

I've just gone from an S2 (I dropped it one too many times) to an S4.

I looked at the S4 Mini, which was pretty much the same size as an S2.
I also looked at S3, and saw reviews which said the S3 is a better phone than the S4 Mini.
In the end decided the S4 wasn't than much more than either of them, whereas the S5 was silly money more.

My partner has an iPhone 4. The screen is smaller than the S2. I don't like it (and I have an ipad which I do like).

The points a PP makes about apple v Samsung aren't that valid if you already have a Samsung and have been happy with it.
