Hi can anyone recommend one of these for extra password protection Heard people talking about them after the eBay password scare. Tried a norton one and then seemed to have no way of finding out the second password I had 'apparently' put in.... Grrrr Angry. Have had trouble with using these before but tell me they are worth it please!?

Thanks

I use Lastpass which is free. It's the most useful app I have I think and I'd be totally lost without it.

Basically you install the software and create a master password (Make sure you don't forget it!) then any websites you visit it will save the password for you and fill it in the next time you visit.

Of course the downside is all your passwords are encrypted and stored on the Internet so your security is only as good as Lastpass are. But they have a good reputation and so far I haven't heard of any breaches.

LastPass were breached back in 2011.

Better to use an app stored locally rather than on the internet somewhere. PasswordSafe is a good one.
But then you need to make sure you dont get malware on your computer / device.

Or write them down and keep the paper locked up.

Ah ok, i did some more research and you are right. Before I used them which is probably why i haven't heard. But from reading around it seems they sounded the alarm louder than it perhaps warranted.

I'm glad they did as many companies would have swept that under the carpet and tried to keep it quiet. A lot of the security features they've introduced on the back of that are the ones I really like (like tying it down to certain IP's). My master password is also very complex (I think) so would take a while to brute force.

Nothing is of course totally secure except a PC in a locked room with no access to the Internet.

For me the benefits of Lastpass have far outweighed the possible negatives. That said.....for my most sensitive passwords such as bank details I haven't stored anywhere but my brain.
