Transferring to DVD to view on TV for xmas pressie - help!

I have purchased a film of my cat wishing ds a happy xmas! It was sent to me as a youtube link, and also as a 'Dropbox' link.

I've tried going to my downloads list, right clicking on the file, then pressing 'send to' and selecting the disc. The disc is a DVD-R. At first it wouldn't play on the computer but now it does (fingers crossed for xmas day).

Howeve when I put it in the dvd player (which is where ideally I wanted DS to play it) it just says bad disc.

Is it the wrong type of disc?

To save fannying around burning it to disk, is there another way of playing it on the telly? For example, my Playstation will play media files from a USB stick. The telly itself has slots for an SD card and a USB stick. (Also the Playstation will play DVDs since you have already copied it there).

Seems pretty unlikely your DVD player can't play DVD-R disks, but possible. You need to check the manual, Google for the model number.

tribpot my tv is really ancient and I don't have a Playstation! My DVD player is a cheap one so maybe that's the problem, good to know that DVD-R discs are normally ok. I'll check the manual, thank you!

If you are just sending the file to the disc then it's probably just storing the file on the disc which is not going to work, especially on a low end DVD player. You will need to burn the video to the DVD using software such as Nero. This will create a particular file type and structure which your DVD player will understand.

Ah, I see, that makes sense. Thanks Pedro, hopefully Nero will be a free eay to install program, I will look it up tonight. Thanks

Whethergirl, what is file format of your film? AppGeeker DVD Creator do a pretty good burning as well.

I have been using it for a while, works great on my computer, does everything itself.

I think it's an mp.4? Thank you Habermas, I will take a look at that website. Have already given the disc to ds to view on the computer but know he'd love to see it on TV.

Yes, see it on TV is very cool. Burn the file to dvd, then watch it on TV. www.firecoresoft.com/dvd-solutions/convert-mp4-to-dvd.html
Maybe this can give you a info how to do this.
