So happy to see that facebook learned nothing about me and my lifestyle to sell to anyone this year .....

Because most people I know use it. I keep up with their news, especially friends abroad and kids photos etc. It also helps to find old friends. Just seen someone 3 times in the last three weeks who I hadn't seen for a decade before that because of facebook.

I don't post much and I delete posts after a week.

I understand it's a business providing a service and that they make money by selling data regarding you and me. I just don't want my data on their shelves to sell.

I think you'd be amazed how much they have learned about you without you posting much. Firstly, deleting posts doesn't mean that they are deleted from Facebook - they're just no longer visible to you. Your friends, and friends of friends, provide a valuable relationship graph. If you are signed into Facebook and visit other sites you may have seen comment boxes where you can enter your data. Pixel trackers, third-party cookies, etc. (www.facebook.com/help/159967110798373) all come into play. The big data warehouses know more about you than you think. If you have time, watch (or listen to or read the show notes for) twit.tv/show/security-now/404 - very interesting.

You are right, it's a company providing a service and they need to monetize. And they do.
