Anyone able to help out a techno-limited parent? I want to get DD a device of some sort

I have a budget of approx £150. I want something that dd can use to do her homework - so would like Windows/Office - and browse the net, so needs to handle youtube lol! It doesn't have to be superwizzy in any way, just able to fulfill those two functions.

Does such a device exist for that money? Would it be a laptop/netbook/tablet/kindle-type thingy?

Advice and links most welcome smile

If she is to do homework, presumably that will involve a fair amount of typing? We have a 'proper' office style computer, running Linux and Firefox. I don't have any experience of any of these new 'gadgets', but they must be much more difficult to use for typing, though I guess you can plug an office keyboard in if they have enough USB ports.

The Raspberry Pi computer is only around £25, but needs a monitor or TV connecting, and a mouse and keyboard. You probably need to be a bit 'techy' to set it up, but there user groups all round the country, and secondary schools may well have students or teachers that are familiar with it. This tells you a bit about it:

If you want Windows and Office I would guess that will add greatly to the cost (that's why Bill Gates used to be the richest man in the world!) but several free software organisations do similar 'Open Source' packages without charge, which will interface with Office products if you use the correct settings.

I suppose the cheapest option that is also convenient, is if you can find a second hand office computer or laptop; some big companies discard their old machines, and you might be lucky enough to find something that way.
