Switching from windows to IOS

I have been given a MacBook Air that was surplus to DH requirements. Lucky me.

I have only ever used windows.

I am just using it for my uni work at the moment, so Word, Excel, internet etc I might be expected to use AutoCAD at some point. Sort of stuff I do all day at work, but on a windows machine.

What do I need to know as a relative Apple virgin? Nothing looks the same, nothing is where I expect it to be, and everything works differently. I set up my ID ok, and it took a mere 40 minutes to set a downloaded image as wallpaper ( being stubborn ) I am proficient on a PC but I feel like I've been transported back to 1991 and my first go on windows 3.1 and it isn't nice!

Oh, and what is the easiest way to export my iTunes library off a windows 7 netbook onto this beastie? Without losing artwork and playlists?

I found transitioning from windows to Mac harder than I had anticipated. I thought everything would be intuitive but it wasn't . I love my Mac but you do have to put in a good few hours learning how to use it.

If you live close to an Apple store you could attend some of their free training sessions. I didn't bother but, in retrospect, I think I should gave made the effort.

Now, whenever I can't do anything easily, I just take the time to read up on how to do it properly rather than just bungling along.

welcome to the world of apple. It can be difficult to move from one OS to another (mac is OS not iOS). But rest assured you have a far better machine.

Just takes some time depending on how much you mess with them to get used to the various aspects of it.

My favourite site for help and using a Mac is macmost.com
Look around it and it has many vids on how to use it. If you click on an example vid you will see the help is usually clear and with out all the jargon. I found it on youtube.

I thought I was pretty IT savvy. But I am struggling!

I think I'm feeling the pressure because I have coursework to do, I'm under a bit of time constraint. ( get off bloody mn woman) and I use a pretty high end pc all day at work, lots of vector graphics type stuff. So I am really surprised how different it all is.

I found it really hard when I switched but I love my MacBook now. The great thing is, is that there are loads of sites with info so if you google 'how do I do X on a mac' you can usually find the answer quite quickly.
