Has anyone got one? I'd never even heard of them until this week. I've googled and they sound just right for getting Radio 4 abroad. I'm just wondering if they really work.

We have just bought a wifi radio. Radio 4 is fine on it. I assume it would work as well abroad, as long as you have a reasonable internet connection.

Hi - They are great (although still a bit pricey when compared to for example DAB radios which have now come down so much in price)....As well as the many UK local, regional and national stations You can choose from thousands of other radio stations available from all around the world... You can also use a Wi-Fi radio to easily search stations by name, theme, region or genre: (Jazz, Rock, Classical, Disco, News, Sport, Comedy etc etc) so there is plenty of choice for everyone - Having said all that, don't forget that WI-FI stations can be just as easily listened to on your laptop, although to be fair the sound quality of most Wi-Fi radios will far exceed that of laptops. One last tip, if you do get one and plan to use it a lot, ensure that you have a fast and ideally unlimited broadband connection.

If you have an iPod Touch or iPad you can get a digital radio app for less than a euro/pound. We have one called TuneIn Radio and it basically does the same thing as a digital radio. We use it to listen to Radio 4 all the time (am also abroad) but you do need a decent broadband connection.

Thanks for all the responses. We live in northern France and can get R4 on long wave (although the cricket take over drives us mad). We have good broadband, so the OH would be able to have it on in his shed on FM. We spend time in Spain too, right out of range, and that's what we really want it for. The wifi there is good enough to get it on the laptop so I guess the same would be true for a wifi radio. I think I'll go for it, there's one on Amazon well reviewed for less than £100.
