Sorry, not the most scintillating topic, but just had an email from norton wanting £64.99 to renew my antivirus for the next year.
Groupon have a code for Panda, that's less than half that, and I have heard a couple of people talking about free antivirus that you can download.
With 3 laptops in the house now, I really don't want to be shelling out a small fortune every year, but also realise that I do need something!!
Any advice please.

Download and install the free Microsoft Security Essentials direct from Microsoft - windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download for virus and spyware protection.

That is one line of defence. The first line of defence is you, the user. Don't download and run files from the internet unless you know that they are trustworthy; don't visit "dodgy" sites; and use a good browser - I would recommend Google Chrome www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/ or Firefox www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

We have used trend micro pc cillin for years, one subscription covers 3 computers (one of them is a 16 year olds) and we have been very happy with it.

I use a mac though and don't have anything on it so I have to be careful as studying says above.

I use Avast Antivirus, it's free & very good.

I haven't paid for anti virus software since the 90's....

I appreciate it.
Just loath to spend money on stuff I don't need to!

Avg free antivirus is very reliable and going for ages.

AVG and Avast free versions both compete for the top spots on the polls if you google 'top antivirus'. Both are brilliant at what they do.

Although it's improved over the years, I wouldn't use norton for all the tea in china.

Get AVG or Avast. Panda is rubbish, Norton overpriced, McAfee is not worth it either. (And i should know I used to work at a well known AV company)
