What sort of parental controls are there for the ipad?
DD has her own login on the family laptop and can only access websites I've allowed.
We're looking at getting an ipad and I'm wondering what I could put in place if she were to sometimes .use the ipad unsupervised

There are parental settings on the settings bit but the most important one I found is to STOP INGAME PURCHASING as my son racked up a bill of £200 on his ipad buying Simpsons donuts. A friends's bill was £500! Apple cant do anything about it and either will the card companies so be warned. They said it is a massive problem but there is no solution for it so far. hope that helps?

Ouch! Thanks, that is worth knowing.

Agree with disabling ingame purchasing. My stepson (6) spent over £40 on crap like virtual ice creams for a virtual giraffe!

As for parental controls...they are limited really. What I'd suggest is using Open DNS Familyshield

This is a free for home users. How this works is you input the DNS servers into your router (they have instructions or maybe you can figure it out or get a techy friend to do it). The advantage of doing this on the router is that every device, laptop, desktop, smartphone, tablets are protected.

Attempts to access adult content is then redirected to say 'blocked'

As we've shouted loudly, internet filters are not a replacement for proper parental supervision. But OpenDNS & K9 are quite good at stopping the casual surf or accidental pop ups.

Thanks I'll have a look at that.
It does sound like the parental controls are quite limited then.
