Apache Tomcat Error?

OK - not at all technical so please be patient!!
For about a week I have been unable to reply to my emails, forward them or move between 'folders' (inbox, trash, sent items etc) without my email collapsing and putting up the following:
Apache Tomcat/5.5.27 Error report.
I am with TalkTalk (although not for much longer....) who have been less than helpful. Just wondered whether any of you fantastic people might be able to come up with a (simple) solution for a luddite Grin
Many thanks for any advice.

From what I've found this is a server applet, so it looks like your ISP or email provider has the problem. Sorry I can't help, but their help page is here.

Apache Tomcat is your web server. So this an error being generated by the host, not on your local client so really Talk Talk should be investigating it for you.

Tomcat 5.5 is quite an old version and is out of support with the vendor so perhaps Talk Talk has been trying to drop a new applet onto your email client which is being blocked? Sorry, I'm not an authority but I'd be pushing it back to Talk Talk and I'd probably check my virus software isn't blocking a new version from loading too.

Thanks for your replies although I'm not totally sure I understand Blush
Basically though it should be TalkTalk fixing it? (they are my Broadband supplier as well as email - although as I say their days are numbered).
Any other views out there?

Yup, almost certainly TalkTalk's problem rather than yours. What sort of email is this? Is it webmail (where you go to a website to log in to it) or do you use an email program on your PC, like Outlook or Thunderbird to get at it?

Seeline · 11/07/2013 09:13

Hi Naoko - it's webmail I have to log in to the TalkTalk site to access it.

I have a fairly standard approach to using ISPs for e-mail, and that's just don't do it!

Sorry, know you are hinting at the idea you are switching ISP, but my bold comment above was really for those who aren't switching...

I have been recommending people use independent services (whether free or paid) such as GMail, Hotmail / Live.co.uk / Runbox.com / FastMail.net rather than the "ISP Mail" partly because you then have the ability to switch ISP without worrying about losing contacts from the address book, and partly because the mail services are very, very, good, while many ISPs seem to struggle to keep their mail service going (or are overloading them, by the time they have a few million customers like the "big ones" {BT, TalkTalk, Sky, VirginMedia, Orange/EE } )

For someone self-employed, or running a business, getting their own domain name generally looks more professional, too, and you can have just e-mail without a web site (though a basic site, with contact details might be worthwhile).

Good luck with switching!
