Help - Ukash virus

ds just got a page up blocking his laptop - "Metropolitan Police e-Crime" suggesting he had distributed porn, committed a copyright offence etc and telling him to pay a £100 fine to get it unblocked. It had even snapped him on webcam (which he's never used) and posted his pic. It looks pretty authentic at first glance and very unnerving.

Internet suggestions are to start in safe mode and use command prompt but this seems to be blocked (W7). If we log in it flashes the black windows prompt screen then reboots or just takes us to the virus screen. His anti-virus had expired we think . Any suggestions please ?

Thanks, we have tried but as can't get into the Windows prompt in safe mode we haven't found one we can use yet. Also wary of making the situation worse by using a duff one.

If you cannot get into safe mode, you'll need to virus scan the hard drive without running the OS - either by removing it, putting it in an external USB hard drive enclosure and scanning it with another computer with a good, up to date antimalware program (MalwareBytes is a good one) or your other option is to boot your laptop (with harddrive still in situ) from a "rescue" disk, such as Kaspersky's one - instructions here: forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=112848 This means that you're not executing anything on the main system drive - the computer is running from the cd and within RAM, and scanning your hard drive as though it were the external storage.
