Does anyone have any experience of these phones please?

Heavy user of mobile web as I don't have a tablet or a laptop that works without being held together!

Currently have a 4s but due a upgrade and I'm done with apple.

I have a Note 2, it's incredible (and will be a massive improvement over your iPhone!). What do you want to know?

The S3 is very similar in terms of software but as I'm sure you know is a bit smaller. The Additional features that the Note 2 has are mostly around the s-pen stylus which is actually an amazing piece of kit which I use far more than I ever expected for jotting down quick notes or even just drawing some abstract pictures using one of the great painting apps (and I'm not that arty normally, it's just fun to use!)

Finally I find someone who has a note2
So many have the galaxy and rave about it but I love the idea of the note. I like how it's twice as fast.

How do you find the battery and using as a phone? Does it feel silly holding to talk?

The battery is outstanding. Although that's obviously subjective! Generally speaking, I charge it every night and have at least 20-30% battery left at the end of the day unless I have spent several hours playing games or streaming video. This is without worrying about battery saving methods like turning the brightness down or switching off Wifi, etc. Some people I know can get a couple of days use easily if they're careful.

As a phone it's fine. I actually don't make that many phone calls but I don't feel stupid holding it to my head or anything like that.

It IS a big device though, so one handed operation has it's limitations. I just about manage, but if you have small hands then one handed might be a bit of a struggle, although it does have some helpful solutions for that like a setting for the keyboard to make it slightly smaller and shifted to one side of the screen to make one handed typing easier.

As an internet device it's sublime though. Everything is smooth and fast, the screen is beautiful. There's also the side-by-side multitasking feature which allows you to view two apps at the same time.

And as I said above, the s-pen is brilliant for making notes, drawing pictures, cutting out parts of photos, etc. It also has quite surprisingly good handwriting recognition for turning your scribbles into text!

I used to be an Apple man until I changed to the Note 1. I love it.

Size-wise it takes a little bit of getting used to. But after a little while, it feels perfectly normal and every other phone just seems too small!

For me the decision was made when a friend asked me a very simple question. What do you do most with your phone? Do you make calls/text or surf the web and use apps/play games. It was the latter for me and occasionally call someone.

I'm not sure how the battery life is with the Note 2 but personally I've found the Note 1 can last a day if I use it normally. Less of course if I am fiddling with it. Certainly it is no worse than my old iphone. What I have done now though is purchased a second battery. This just sits in my laptop bag and comes out when I am travelling/low on juice. Obviously I can't do this with an iphone!

The one thing I will say is a downside is due to the size, if you hold the phone for an extended period then your hand will get sore. So for example if I am watching a movie in bed or on a plane then after an hour my hand gets sore. But hey...how often will you be doing that!?!?!

browneyedpixie · 21/01/2013 22:36

Thanks this is brilliant.
I text alot, surf ( online Wink) a lot, camera is important to me and I make occasional calls.

I have big hands for a girly but I like the sound of the side keyboard option.

iPhone battery is... Well naff quite simply!

I personally don't use the one handed keyboard. It just seemed a bit weird. What I do love though is the Swype keyboard which makes typing input SO much easier!

browneyedpixie · 21/01/2013 22:52

Oh how does that work?

Oh I had a google, I'm liking that.

Ok I guess I need to decide whether to pay the early upgrade or not..

I use SwiftKey myself. The latest version with swiping enabled is still in Beta, but that means it's free to download at the moment. I find the word prediction much better than Swype or the stock JellyBean swiping keyboard.

Thanks.

Any s3 reviews?

Cheeky bump for s3 comments?

I don't own one, but what I've heard from others has all been positive on the S3. But then I'd expect that as it runs pretty much the same software as the Note 2. I think it's down to size really. If you can handle the size of the Note 2 then it's a no brainer, but if that's too big then go for the S3.
