Parental controls on tablets

I've just bought a nexus 7 for 12yo dd. Can anyone advise what I can do in the way of parental controls? I'm thinking expecially for things like youtube, but any advice, app suggestions gratefully received! Thanks.

There isn't a simple answer at all.

Parental controls on tablets are really still in their infancy. The best advice which also applies to all computers is to make sure they only use them in communal areas.

I can't see any reason at all why a child should be allowed to take a computer to their room for hours on end.

Kindle fires are really easy you just pull down the menu blind and press more.

Pretty crude you can't do more than turn off purchases or web access.

Also be aware of sodding amazon 1click it isn't blocked by the app purchase blockAngry

Need to sort this before kindle leaves the house.

However, I'm a bad bad mother and don't set parental controls.

(Purchases is set to stop me doing it by accident, DD1 knows the iTunes password and pays up promptly).

Computers are everywhere, wifi enabled devices are everywhere.

DD2 could navigate the Web long before she could read, she's never known a world without the Internet.

In the end once DCs are 9 or 10 and can borrow any mates phone or lap top we have to trust them.

I'm certain DD2 doesn't do much I'd rather she didn't other than watching too much CBBC.

DD1 is a bit of a beggar for watching post watershed TV on iPlayer. Torchwood, Vampire Diaries and the like, but she watches loads of science and history too.
She also takes sixth form only books out the library, she says it's a librarians perk.

She's 14, compared with drink, drugs and having babies her crimes are very minor.
