Firstly my internet connection is rubbish at the moment..will talk to talktalk asap!

Why does a clip lasting around a minute take up nearly 500MB? And take 8 hours to upload to Dailymotion?

I have managed to fill the free space on Dropbox with about 7 minutes of video clips.

Been at this nearly a week now and going crackers.

As for you tube...forget it - they wont upload at all! Sad Angry

I would guess that the video is not being compressed.

What is the source of the video clips? Look at settings on the device that is creating the clip for save options, such as what Codec it is using, frame rate, size of frame, things like that.

Pretty sure you are losing me here but will try. Hovering over the clip it says Movie Clip 339 MB - 2 minutes duration! properties. frame width 1920 height 1080 / 22318 kbps data rate / 22670 total bit rate. type of file (.avi). size on disc 339 mb.

Think it is something to do with compressing files. I have RAR file un- compressing tool, but nothing to compress. will go and look into doing this, but photobucket seems to be uploading Ok athe moment.

Do you use A PC running Windows? If so, use (you may need to download it) Microsoft Movie Maker, which will let you edit the AVI and export it for use on the web.

The size you are giving seems to me to be HD quality, standard definition video would be around 640x480. Whilst video services like YouTube do support HD, the file size will be big. Does it need to be that big? Windows movie maker will make it smaller for you, use the default settings and see what the result is like, then modify the settings if you wish.

Video files can be notoriously big. Your home Internet connection simply isn't geared up for video. Neither is the free Dropbox account.

In layman's terms, what you are doing is trying to drain your bathwater using a spoon. Ie. It's going to get messy and take a long time.

The trick is to convert your video into a format more geared up for being uploaded. Try Handbrake which should allow you to convert your AVI into a more web friendly MP4 file.

Also consider if you really need to upload your video at 1920 height by 1080. It would be better to upload it at 720 wide. It will make your file smaller without a big compromise in quality.

Hope that all makes sense.

Drain my bathwater using a spoon Grin Grin you are so right!

I did try to upload from windows movie maker to you tube and it just wouldnt happen. I managed to right click and send one to a compressed file but it didnt compress it much.

I am getting the gist of what you are both saying wrt the size of the clips, they are huge considering they are not much more than a minute each. Basically I get the idea of converting via handbrake and reducing the size of the clips. At them moment I have 9 uploaded to dropbox and currently uploading 4 to photobucket. I'll not mess with it now as it seems to be working fairly well, and all I want to do is get them seen by a friend.

Thanks for all the info though. I am going to think and work this thing through a bit better next time! Smile

Managed to make a windows movie maker clip and uploaded that to photobucket and it seems to have compressed it too...way to go in future Smile

Handbrake wouldnt entertain it at all! But it was a v complex program for the likes of me!
