Downloaded it onto my new laptop, which is pretty much the same as my old work one.
Small point but annoying. Pressing the back key used to do just that, take me to the previous page. Now it takes me to the previous place I was on the current page - or places if it was a long article.

Clicking on and holding the back arrow key on the bar shows that the history is the same, e.g. I scroll through Active Conv and stop, read a thread title, scroll on, and the history will be 4 lots of ACs.

Looked in settings, can't find anything. As I said, small annoyance and am wondering why.

Oops, meant to put this in Geeky Stuff. Obv the interference of my smooth MNing distracted me Xmas Grin

It is usually something in that particular web page that causes that, rather than the browser itself.

Try it on a few different sites and see if it's always that way, or just sometimes?

AdesteFiderer · 07/12/2012 07:47

It's on the Guardian too, that's where I first noticed it. But a quick go through BBC News and the Independent shows they're fine, it's just The G and MN.

Thanks Tee, your Brew's in the post.

The Guardian is always a nuisance. If anyone posts a link, it opens that and closes the original page.

NetworkGuy · 07/12/2012 17:45

I regularly click links to open them in a new window or new tab. It usually works unless the website is using some JavaScript code to change the web address. Have to admit am not currently using Chrome as much as before (over the summer have added a few secondhand iMac systems, and Chrome won't even run on some of them [because Google has coded it only for Intel CPU and not the older PowerPC | Apple specific CPU]).

Some browsers allow you to define what to do when clicking a link.

AdesteFiderer · 08/12/2012 08:11

Links are no problem, I'm used them being a nuisance on the Guardian Xmas Grin It's the back clicking to return to the main topic/front page without being returned to several places on the same page first.

I assumed it was something to do with the new laptop and/or the download. Was just one of those things where you're used to something being quick and you do it automatically. Then it doesn't work and you think "Heh?"

Can't find anything in settings to alter it. Still, new laptop is faster and the keys are not sticky with blackcurrant juice - have banned my d from placing any drinks near this one Xmas Hmm

LOL about the blackcurrant juice. Surefire way to kill a laptop if drink gets in (or at least kill the keyboard). I was given an old Gateway because wine was spilt and person treated themself to a new one on the spot...

AdesteFiderer · 17/12/2012 08:16

Updating to say it doesn't happen any more, on MN or the Guardian. Odd. Haven't changed anything.

Makes me realise how much we (or I) now expect techy things to be instantaneous and run perfectly Grin
