think we've decicded to get my mum a kindle. she needs large print and is near to exhausting the supply in the local library, also her hands can hurt holding a hardback so it seems like a no brainer? Have looked at the other e readers but keep coming back to kindle. the one thing still to suss before i buy is that she never buys books always the library! I see for £50 per year we can join amazon prime and that gives membership of kindle library but what are the titles like? is there a good selection. she likes fairly 'mainstream' stuff james patterson & other thriller/detective stuff and maybe a bit of 'romance'. will there be plenty for her to choose from? Thanks folks

I've heard there's a pretty good selection but haven't joined myself. I'm definitely interested in hearing others experiences.

You can only borrow one title per month on amazon prime do unlikely to be enough.

In my county, libraries themselves run an audiobook file "borrowing" scheme but not compatible with ITunes - have a look to see what her county does.

thats really useful thanks folks. was also chatting to some people at work today as well and i think we'll just get her an amazon gift voucher for the moment. If there are plenty of cheap books, that will prob be cheaper than £50 amazon prime, shes not that fast a reader!
Also , if you can only borrow on title per month, thats a lot of money per book as i;m not really that bothered about the other stuff that amozon prime offers, decsision made!! Just waiting for another offer, Tesco had £10 off last week but i missed it!!

Depending what you want to read you can get some bargains on Amazon anyway. Many older books by renowned authors can be bought for a couple of quid.

I think you have made a wise decision! I lent my kindle to someone who needed large print books. He hated it! :(

He does, however, love his ipad, on which he listens to audiobooks and reads ebooks etc!!

One thing which might help your mum if she's exhausted the large print stock at the library. Some of them have a good audiobook selection on CD. These make a pleasant change, I understand (though you do need a CD player).

I do have a kindle but am thinking of getting a different e reader as alot of the other e readers are compatible with local libraries and so you can borrow books for free. I currently borrow eBooks from my local library and read them on my iPad. The library has a pretty good selection though not a patch on the range of real books available. I have recently started a trial membership of prime but haven't been that impressed by the choice so far. I haven't heard of many of the books available at all. And it is very limiting having just one book a month. I am thinking about getting a nook but already have alot of books on my kindle.

Some of the kindle books have a sound file with them (like an audiobook but not necessarily such high quality).
