Anyone have/tried out a kobo mini (ereader)

Hello,
Been looking at ereaders for my Dhs Christmas gift.
I am very heavily leaning towards a kobo (more formats available to purchase/not locked in to one site like the kindle).

He will be using it almost exclusively on his commute, has a smartphone and will be getting a tablet through work soon too. Really just needs something for reading, so think eink is the best screen option.

I like the size of the mini (in theory), and it's currently £10.00 off in Smiths.

So, has anyone tried one, or indeed own one?

Reviews by customers seem favourable, but tech reviews a bit more middle of the road.

Thanks!

Hi Runswithscissors.

I got DP a mini for his birthday last month and he loves it. It is really light, it is a great size and the battery life is really good. If I compare it to my own Sony e reader, I would go for the Kobo every time! One slight niggle is that there isn't an official cover for it yet, (although there are lots of generic ones that will fit but obstruct the power button) although I'm sure they will bring one out soon.
So in a nutshell, I would definitely recommend them :-)

Tech reviews tend to favour the Kindle because, in all honesty, they are better bits of kit. Personally I've never had an issue with the formats as Amazon have the best range of books and they do support PDF and you can have other formats converted. However, if price is a major factor, then there's certainly nothing wrong with the Kobo!

Brilliant. Thank you both for your input. Think I will go with the kobo, as price is an issue.

Greatly appreciate you taking the time to reply :-)
