Geeky stuff

Right this 4g waffle. Is it relevant if I barely get 3g?

When I am some where with 3g my phone tells me. This appears not to happen much, on account I more more often than not in places in the middle of nowhere, rather than slap bang somewhere.

and when I am somewhere I am usually able to access free wifi - which is faster than anything with a G in it.

So if I get a phone soon through O2 or similar, it won't be 4g compatible? Does that matter? Do I wait till its become standard or simply ignore it as an interesting bonus for vair important city types Confused

Please use small words so I have a basic understanding before the sales people attempt to bamboozle me.

The UK iPhone 5 will only work on 1800 MHz band for 4G, which means it won't work in O2 or Voda, as the other bands being auvtioned by OFCOM are above and below that band.

If those two networks cannot get any iPhones on 4G, it will mean they might even ignore the auction

I think I want to leave iPhone behind when my 3gs finally dies, I've lost the love for the phone (still like the pods though).

So if I stay with o2 its not a problem anyway?

Moved from mobile so my typos won't be so bad... 'auctioned'

Chap in the local Three Store says they offer HSPA+ (which he says is 5x speed of 3G), HSPA+ (on Wiki) is said to be 21 Mbps. 4G (according to the same chap) is 8x speed of 3G

It's probably not worth worrying about a new 4G phone if you're having problems with 3G at present. I'd not be worried, and think the free wi-fi option is a good one!!

Grin thank you. I rarely have access to 3G despite having a 3G phone so it seems daft to worry about 4g

No, will be no problem with sticking with O2, and not worrying about 4G now (or forever!) Only kidding... speeds may increase overall but the 4G speed boost may take a while to get everywhere (and then only to 80%? of UK).
