Hi there

My ds has been fiddling on laptop and has reset the password so I cant get into it! I have tried to reset it but it only suggests resetting it using the USB password wizard which I dont have. I am supposed to be working a home on it tomorrow and my work system won,t let me use the iPad which I am currently on.

Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do to break into it? Soooo annoying.

Thanks in advance

i'd make him reset it....where is he? Little git!

then he would be so banned from the www for the rest of the holidays. See how he likes them apples!

can you get in to system manager or something?

Catsmamma · 22/07/2012 11:22

am presuming it's not a random four year old faffing about! :o

In the worst case scenario, reinstall the OS. But you can probably reset it.

If it's a Mac, you can probably boot into single user mode and edit the auths. If you don't know how to do that, you can look on macworld.

If it's a PC then probably Safe Mode and then depending on your Windows version have a google

Thanks. He is only 3 so will be a random combination of letters. Will investigate dr google once kids are safely colouring.

System manager etc on my oc needs you to log on, which is the problem alas'!

Thanks again.

Would it be correct to assume laptop and iPad are only methods of internet (ignoring phones) ?

If you have some other PC (with CD write ability) there might be some linux rescue method.

If only laptop and iPad, sorry no suggestions (except to add a backup account with Admin status as soon as poss. Give it a password of course, but odds of two locked accounts is lower ...

As NetworkGuy has mentioned you can reset the password without wiping the existing OS and I do this regularly when clients (who can prove ownership) forget their passwords, but it will involve burning and then booting from a cd. Would you be able to do that from another computer?
