i have a very old Motorola phone which I only use for occassional texting and very occassional calls. I have ipod which I use for internet quick stuff (like this Grin) and pay for internet via BT phone bill.

i have always been on pay as you go with Orange - i have text from Orange on Tuesday confirming my latest top up

I am confused though as on Home screen where it used to say 'Orange' (least I think it did) it now say 'T Mobile UK'. Hmm

Did TMobile change to Orange? Have just asked DD what hers says as she is Orange too and she says hers says T Mobile 'sometimes' too?

Am I missing something? Not really sure how mobile tariffs work as always been pay as you go - am I randomly using another net work?
Is it switching itself to better reception or something?

Nothing weird going on and Im going to get bill from T Mobile is there?

Sorry if this is stupid question but not at all 'techy'Blush

They're part of the same company.

There's some arrangement where they use each others network for service iirc.

One company bought the other out. (orange bought t-mobile, I think)

You now have access to both networks. It should naturally default to your original provider (orange) but, if you are somewhere where the t-mobile signal is stronger, it will lock on to the stronger signal.

No not strange - you should have had a text some time back telling you that the companies were now "Everyone Everywhere" (or some similar EE daft name, which might eventually mean half the stores are closed and the company branding will change, but no evidence of it so far)...

However, if you don't use your phone on a regular basis, the text might have "expired" unread while it was left in the message service and your phone was left powered off.

There may have been some 'network setting' message as well for your phone (which probably did still arrive) and for those whose phones were on, the announcement about "Good news, now your phone will work with signals from both Orange and T-Mobile" [or whatever it actually said] ended something like "For your phone to be able to access both networks, just switch off and back one again".

Clearly if yours was off when the explanatory text message(s) came through, then at some point afterwards, it has been set to work with both networks and now you can 'see' the result of the change.
