PC freezing when browsing internet

I have had enough of my pc freezing when browsing. I usually don't have too many sites open at a time and it seems to be happening more often.

What can I do to sort this?

First off, which browser are you using? Have you got the latest updates installed? How much RAM do you have free?

What you can do is download and run CCleaner, quite possibly the best free tool on the internet.

Explorer I think. Ok - so you'll know how little I know when I ask 'updates of what'? and how can I check what I have?

Also, how do I check how much RAM? I presume that if I have too little (?) then I need to get some more or delete programmes, files?

Click start, then control panel, then system and select General. This will give you processor type and speed, and amount of free RAM.

The only time I used Explorer was to download Firefox. Download and set it as preferred browser, then install Ghostery to stop Facebook people tracking you online and HTTPS Everywhere which encrypts your browser.

ok, I've installed updated AVG, had it before but not sure if it was up to date.

Checked how much ram I have and it's 2gb but it does not indicate how much free ram I have.

2GB is plenty. Download CCleaner from the link in my first post and allow it to run. It should take about 10 minutes the first time you run it, and it will free up masses of disk space.

Then think about using a different browser. Either Firefox or Chrome. They're both more secure and faster than IE.

Open the side of the PC and see if the things that look like little tin cans are leaking all over the motherboard/take a torch and try to see into the back of the power supply for the same thing.

Downloaded ccleaner and will try using different browser.

Good work Maggie. I'm a bit of an evangelist for CCleaner and for using any browser but IE. People seem to prefer Chrome but I like Firefox.
