Can I send a photo by SMS to an ipod?

Can I send a photo by SMS to an ipod? If so, how?

I have an ancient phone, with a pretty decent camera on. But I can't get the photos off!

The software was on an old laptop, which is now defunct.
The new laptops won't accept the software CD that came with the phone, as it needs an older version of Windows...
So I can't work out how to get my photos off!

Not sure if this will be helpful but I have a really cheap payg phone with no camera and it can't receive photo messages. My sister regularly texts me photos and they come through as a text message with a website link (orange) and password, you go to the website, enter the password and from there I can view the photo and save it on my iPad. Maybe you could do something similar with a laptop, then download onto the iPod via iTunes.

That's an interesting idea NannyR. I wonder if I can find an old phone somewhere that would do that.

Hi Roisin, to send a photo by MMS the recipient needs a phone number. But if your phone supports Wifi you can send it via that.

Does the phone have Bluetooth or was there a USB cable.

If you post the make and model of the "ancient" phone someone will know the full capabilities.

roisin · 25/05/2012 16:32

The phone has Bluetooth, but keeps demanding a PIN, which I either don't have or can't remember, to connect via Bluetooth.

The iPod only wants to connect to apple bluetooth thingies.

Yes, it came with a USB cable, but if I plug it in to a computer it just doesn't recognise it!

Does it have a memory card? Quite often on old phones the card was under the battery. At least that's where it was on my old Nokia.

roisin · 25/05/2012 18:41

I don't think so, though I can't work out how to get to the battery!
It has a slot for a micro SD card, but we don't hav one of those either!
And anyway presumably if the phone won't communicate via USB cable, the photos won't be in a suitable format on the memory card either.

What model is the phone? If I knew that one of my spoddy friends might know how to do it.

roisin · 25/05/2012 21:37

It's a Samsung J700

You could try and download the software from the Samsung website. Or do you know anyone with an iPhone? You could text them to an iPhone and then transfer to your iPod via Bump.

  1. EGBDFs idea is a good 'un.
  1. In the morning I will unleash the spods. They are very clever. One of them (male) looks uncannily like Amy Farrah Fowler. And he is an uber nerd.
roisin · 26/05/2012 08:26

Oh, that's a good idea. I'll try that.

For accuracy, I'm not trying to get the photos onto an iPod per se, but just into an accessible digital format, so that I can get some printed, put some on FB, etc.

I posed the question to my gang of nerds and the top answer was 'insert a micro SD card and transfer the photos from phone to card'. The second answer echoed EGBDF.

So thanks to the K-man and Pablo.

If you have a phone to USB cable, windows or another cameras software may well detect the phone and download it for you.

I never use DHs olympus cameras software, I either use windows direct or my canon camera's. (the olympus' is idiotically slow).

startail · 26/05/2012 10:47

I'd avoid getting the photos stuck on an iPod they can be a pain too.
