Is this possible? I want to film all day, what sort of equipment would I need?

I don't see why not! You can get some really lightweight cameras/camcorders now.

I think storage and battery life would be the biggest issue. What kind of quality do you need to film in - are we talking HD, or low resolution? Will you have chance to stop and change memory cards and batteries fairly regularly?

I would like to film the whole day if possible. I have no idea about resolution. It needs to be projected so I am guessing it should be as good as possible.

It's very possible.
The only thing is how long for.
Friends of mine have one like this to record skiing. It goes for 2 hours onto a 4gb card, so you will need to change card. Takes ordinary batteries.

Brilliant! I will have to figure out a way to cheat it a bit so it doesn't look like I have stopped.

What do you need it for?

Why??? [nosey] Grin

Haha x post

I am making a piece of theatre and it's about motherhood, as part of it I wanted to project a day of me looking after the kids. It wouldn't play in real time except maybe for certain sections, I am very technically inept though so it might be a bit of battle!

I'd just change the card and check batteries every time you go to the loo, then - you won't want to record that, really.

You can get up to a 32GB memory card but not all cameras will accept them. The 16GB are the biggest ones which tend to be reliable - going by that 2 hour figure, that ought to get you 8 hours.

If you're projecting it you won't need 1080p HD because the projector is unlikely to support that kind of resolution, but you will want a mid-range resolution I think, don't put it on the lowest setting or it will look grainy.

I think the sound might be a consideration - we had one in at work recently which looked a bit like a microphone with a screen and lens on it, I'll see if I can find out what it was.

Ah - it was the Zoom Q3.

PooshTun · 14/05/2012 13:02

OP - I mean this in a nice way but do you seriously think that people would want to watch a video that does up, down, left, right, pan to the left, pan to the right. No, wait, immediately pan back to the left etc etc etc with lots of camera shake thrown in?

Nothing would induce me to watch some seasick churning video :o Mounting a camera on a tripod that has a broad view of the room would be much better.

neepsntatties · 14/05/2012 14:49

The video will be a background image, not the main thing. Other things will be happening on stage so I am not expecting an audience to sit and watch the film as a film if you see what I mean, it is sort of like part of the set.

Good point about the loo!
