Now I'm thinking bout other stuff, like:

*Can I receive an email on my phone?

*Can I send a text with my computer?

If your phone can send email it can almost certainly receive it.

Sending texts from the computer is trickier. There are ways, but it usually requires hardware. My 3G dongle comes with a phone number and an interface for sending and receiving texts, but I don't see the point.

You can use a website to send a text message. I could google and find one for you but I wouldn't want to deprive you of the excitement of using the browser on your phone to find one Smile

I have a browser on my phone?

May help to mention the phone make and model, so we don't suggest things you cannot do easily :)

I can send text's on my computer using my mobile t-mobile account (webtext) - sometimes it is just easier to type them with a keyboard.

Well it's a purple LG, but I guess you want more than that..... it be a GM360? or a CE0168 or ?

Anyway it's a lovely shade of purple & it has a picture of DD & DH on the screen Wink

yes, have done similar from Orange (30 free texts a month on my PAYG a/c which I opened 10+ ? years ago and may have spend 10-15 quid a year on since then!)

NetworkGuy · 02/05/2012 19:51

where's the number (from the box) ? :)

KatyMac · 02/05/2012 20:02

Under the battery

I don't know where the box is Blush

It looks like this

That doesn't help much does it?

OP posts:

OK, from *> GSM Arena

NetworkGuy · 03/05/2012 13:38

Sorry, thinking of a different forum query, hence my mention of Orange!

KatyMac · 03/05/2012 20:38

Mine's Tesco Pay & go, so I guess not

But sending the odd email will do

Receiving the odd one would be fab

Worth checking balance before you start web browsing (if you try that) and then check afterwards and see how much 5 minutes looking at a few web pages might cost.

If you look at some sites with lots of photos then cost might be high.

Worth knowing before you use up all your credit just what some 'typical' costs might be, and try sending a few mail messages (but be warned if people send back mail with photos in, in case they swamp your phone with data and you get charged).

Don't want to sound a misery but I used to use Virgin to check e-mail now and then and it was costing me around 20p per session (and only reading one or two short messages) because they charged about 1.5p per kB (and 1 MB is around 1000 kB, so you can see how things mount up... a single music track may be 5 MB... best downloaded at home and moved to a mobile via USB or Bluetooth if possible).

KatyMac · 05/05/2012 20:06

I can't get on-line but if I ever mange it I will check....I promise

Ah, well, there may be a (budget saving) benefit if you cannot go online :)

Are you getting two-way e-mail now ? Think e-mail more useful sometimes than web access!
