Hello, not technical so will need some guidance. Use a database at work with employee records which can be viewed (table) or updated (other table). can view all records but when go into update mode there are no records (there was in the past) showing and when I try to run a 'find' error message states that unable to find/replace data. I can't have lost all my individual data records from the database as can view it all on other table. Appreciate some help. thanks

Not sure what you mean. Should be the same table which gets viewed and updated. Maybe different queries

Apologies for not being clear but as I am not technical at all. I work within a database which was built by someone who is no longer available to assist. Within the database there is an area which can only be viewed for employee information and then there is another area which provides the facility to update employee information. It is the update employee information area I am not able to find any data when there was lots in the past.

Could it be something to do with a relationship problem between tables?

I'm sorry, without knowing the structure and being able to see what's happening it's difficult to tell. I suppose it could be that. Or can you set permissions on Access tables?

That said, though I know a lot about databases, I am far from an Access expert

Thanks for your help so far SPB.

Data in tables is usually extracted (or updated) via one or more queries, and viewed in a form. As SPB said, the data, whether being viewed or updated, should exist in the same place.

Data is usually manipulated via queries, and then forms based on those queries are used to display (or otherwise interact) with the data.

Do you have more than one form, i.e. one to view data and one to update it? My first guess is that the 'Update' form is not linked to the table or query any more. Has a table or query been renamed, or has a query been deleted? Do you have a backup of the database to compare with?

Could it be that the query that populates the form you use for data entry includes an if statement that relates to a key date, like the start of the financial year? It would then follow that if there have been no new records since that date the form would be empty but the records are still in the table?
