Found the links and descriptions useful. Thanks... here's my twopenneth...
I've been using an Archos 70 (cost 99.xx just before Christmas). It runs Android 2.2 (while that 110 quid tablet offers 4.0, and seems a good buy for a more up-to-date version).
I have not yet tried the mini-HDMI output to a TV but have been very pleased with it, using it for checking e-mail, keeping notes, general browsing (with Firefox some of the time), and for radio (TuneIt is a rather good free app - I paid for the pro version which also allows recording and playback of the audio).
On SeaSky.org (radio service, broadcasts via World Radio Network wrn.org) there was mention of a meteor shower that should have been visible in the early mornings of Sat/Sun. Got the Google Sky Map and was out yesterday around 3am (but it was cloudy and started raining at 4:30, so had to put the tablet away). Tablet was able to use the net via wi-fi (my Android phone acting as hotspot for the tablet).
I rather like the 60 pound one that was shown on a link earlier - OK, it is still Android v2.2 but handy that it has USB ports and Ethernet [RJ45] as well as handling microSD storage cards. I might buy one to try it out with USB keyboard/ mouse keeping the Archos for use when I am out (via mobile phone).
The Archos 70 has an app to give you a photo frame, cycling through pix on your tablet (and has a 'leg' to allow it to stand up). I considered the 'leg' a bit flimsy but Poundland had some 'iPad' stands which can be used with other tablets too, and won't break the bank!
