How do I connect my Tv to the intenet?

My TV is 'internet ready'.

There is a live stream from a website at the weekend that I'd really like to watch through a bigger screen. I'm assuming that with it being an internet ready TV, this should be perfectly possible. But how do I do it?

Do I need special connectors etc?

Any help gratefully received.

I don't know what came in your box but you need an Ethernet cable. One end plugs into the TV and the other into your Broadband router. Simples.

However, if you were to say that your router is in a different room then it gets complicated.

Ours is connected via wifi which simplifies things a bit - especially as TV and internet box are on different floors of the house! Is yours like that? I can't recall how I did it - I probably just pressed a few likely buttons until I found one I liked the look of (should read the manual but don't).

Well, they're on the same floor, but in different rooms, unfortunately.

We do have WiFi though ...?

Did u press buttons on the tv remote?
I have no idea where to start

Ok, so I've tried to set up internet connection on my TV and I'm getting this message:

"Wireless USB device not found
Insert a compatible wireless device
into the TV's USB port and try again.
If a compatible device is already inserted,
please check the device."

So, what wireless USB device should I be connecting? Confused

Help!

We need to either connect ours with a wire to our router or you can buy a dongle which will connect it wirelessly.

Thanks.

Can I get the dongle from PCworld/currys etc. Are all dongles compatible or do I need a certain one?

I think you will need a specific dongle. It should say in your tv's manual. However, do note that if you manage to get it hooked up, that's still no guarantee you'll be able to watch this live stream if it's coming from a website, that depends on the TV. Mine will let me watch online things via specific apps such as BBC iPlayer or Youtube, but I can't just go onto any old website and look at their streams. I know some TVs can, so it's not impossible, but it's not a given.

I've mis-placed the manual and can't seem to find it online. I bought the tv from currys - do you think if I pop in there they'll know which is the correct dongle?

That's interesting re not picking up any old website. I think I'll give it a try though. Thanks.

Check out the above link. I'm not saying buy this one :) Its just to give you an idea of what you are looking for.

The other thing you should think about is bandwidth. The kids watch a lot of streamed programs and this eats up about 30GB a month. If you are only watching the occasional stream then your usage will be much lower

You need to have a look at your broadband package to see if your bandwidth allowance is sufficent.
