Not loving my HTC phone - can I return it?

I've had it a week now. Not really liking it.
I got it for uploading to photos to FB and to get emails etc.
I just find the 'pull the ring to unlock' a burden, it doesn't alert me if I've missed a message or call - apart from pressing the power button, then 'pull the ring'. Touch screen is a pain for texting.
Can't find FB easily and its hit or miss if it loads properly. Haven't been able to load any photos yet!
Can I return it and go back to my old Nokia - or should I give it another wee while to try and get used to it?

Sorry Tracy but it sounds like the problem is with you as opposed to the phone :) I'm on my third HTC so I am obviously a fan.

Is this your first 'smart' phone? My older sister had a basic Nokia. One day her grown up DD updgraded and gave my sister her old smart phone. My sister's complaints were very similar to yours.

Electronic goods like phones aren't subject to the same consumer rights as returning clothes that don't fit for example. I tried it with Argos a while back but I quoted me this clause. However, I did eventually find a branch that would give me a refund for my purchased gadget. If you hate your phone that much then it is wortha try.

It is my first smartphone but I've been using an ipad for ages and thought it would be like that.
But it seems so user unfriendly.
If I have an internet page or FB open - do I 'close' it down as such - to save data charges - or when I press the 'home' button - does it close it down automatically?
I'm sure you have a 14 day 'change of mind' with mobile phones - I used to work (years ago mind) for Vodafone and the 14 day return phones were usually sold off fairly cheaply - but had only been used for 14 days iykwim.

I am assuming that you are using the facebook app. If yes then I agree it isn't very user friendly. Try going to your web browser and typing in the url m.facebook.com. This will take you to the mobile version of FB thus bypasses the clunky fb app.

As for uploading photos to FB, when you take a picture or look at a picture you can elect to send that picture as a MMS or an email attachment OR upload it to fb.

If you had an iPad I would have thought that you would have bought an iPhone. I don't like the small screen and the premium you pay but apart from that, it is a great phone.

re comments about uploading photos I meant to say that your camera software or you picture viewing software allows you to upload to fb thus once again allowing you to bypass the app.

If you are having trouble loading your photos then it could be because the phone isn't loading as fast as you expect and that you are switching off your phone while it is in the middle of loading the picture onto fb. If you have one one of the latest phones then your camera will probably have a high pixel count. These files can be very big and may take a while to upload.

TracyK · 08/03/2012 14:25

Ah yes - you could be right re the pixel sizes, can I resize before uploading - I don't need it to super sharp.

iPhone was still too £££ and I'm glad I'm not paying too much since I'm not keen on the smartphones. I'm only £17 a month - which isn't much more than my old nokia.

Re resizing, I just tried uploading a photo via the photo album app. The picture is automatically resized without me having to do anything and it took about 5 seconds. So much for that theory.

I suggest that you go back to basics.

Take a picture.
The phone will then show you the picture and on the right will be icons that will allow you to bin the picture or to send it i.e. the envelope icon.

Tap the envelope icon.

You should see options to send the photo via emai or mms or..... Tap option for 'Upload to Facebook'. Then tap Send.

At the top of your screen will be a small symbol ( I can't describe it) next to the ones that tell you about signal strength, battery charge left.

Tap it. It will get you to the screen that gives you the status of the upload. After about 5-10 seconds the photo should be on your fb page.

Got to m.facebook.com and tap Home to refresh the page. Hopefully your picture should be there.

Thanks pushed, will give it a go.

The problem is that you are used to a Nokia and an ipad. The latter of which is much easier to use.

The notification thing does work, you just have to set it up and look at the top of the phone.

I dont see why the pull ring thing is anymore complicated or worse than the ipad/iphone's slide to unlock feature?

To be fair i am used to iphones and I find going to Android incredibly frustrating too.

TracyK · 08/03/2012 18:09

The ring pull thing is a bit frustrating. If I power up the phone and, say, have missed a message, I assumed if I dragged the message icon into the ring pull it would open the message up, but it just takes me to the home screen.
