Dh wants to get an iphone 4s. I wondered if buying the phone outright was a better deal as he doesn't want 600 mins paying £45 month.

Prefer to have Tmobile/Orange as they offer the best reception at our house. They don't seem to do a sim only contract for iphone though. Payg for £10 a month is not quite right though - needs a bit more than that.

So any good deals about? Will consider other networks!

Meant to add - looked at Giffgaff, but have heard dodgy things about them and that makes me a bit nervous!!

Giffgaff are great,we have been with them for 6 months now, never had a problem. They give truly unlimited internet and text messages and are saving us £20 a month per person, also giffgaff to giffgaff calls are free. They are owned by o2 and the only difference I have found is that there is no call centre,if you do run into a problem then it is sorted out by email.

Ok. Makes me feel better. I hadn't heard of them until the other day and when I googled I read about problems logging in, systems being down etc.. I'll have another look.

My entire family are on GiffGaff and many of my friends now. The only reason I'm not on them is because my phone is paid for by work, otherwise I would be too.

If you can afford the upfront costs then it's a no-brainer to get the 4S then Giffgaff.

Upfront £499 + £240 = £739
Contract £45 * 24 = £1080

The only question is whether 250 mins a month is enough. But even if you went for the Giffgaff £15 a month option, you are still quids in over 2 years. Plus you are not tied to a contract and your phone will be worth more as it will be factory unlocked.

As for the lack of call centres to call, I actually love it. I find their forums much quicker to get answers to than the brain exploding experiences of the other larger players.

In short, I can't recommend GiffGaff enough.

Thanks that's what I wanted to hear. Dh wants out of a contract and we looked at the maths the other day and decided buying upfront was better.

O2 coverage is ok here - 2g good indoors and out, but no 3g - need to walk up the road a bit for that! He is currently with Vodafone and only gets a signal whilst hanging out the bathroom window, so it must be better than that.

Thanks for help. I'll try not to get iphone envy now.

Let me know how the no envy thing goes....and how many minutes you last Grin

GiffGaff here too... I have switched the whole family (we haas are my two eldest but I shall stay with giffgaff when I can afford the 4g:)

My only gripe is that when O2 was down in my area, Giffgaff didn't know/say so I wasn't sure if the problem was my phone or not, but it didn't last long.

Their forums are pretty good if you have any phone issues too:)
