Would a "notebook" do the trick?

after much deliberation we replaced our defunct laptop with a pc thinking that we wouldn't need to be wandering around the house doing stuff that involved a laptop.

Wrong! I need to watch some online tutorials in the kitchen and my pc is hooked up in a completely different room.

If a notebook is what I need and if so where/what do I get and how do I hook it up? If not a notebook then what?

thanks

ps I have no idea what a "notebook" is but for some reason have this in my head Confused

Do you mean a NETbook?

A netbook is essentially a small low powered laptop. It's designed to surf the web and be very portable.

You can get them from almost any retailer. If you go to PCWorld, there's loads of them on show. Even our local Tesco's has a few.

A notebook is just an alternative word for laptop really.

It sounds like for what you want, a netbook would work fine.

ah yes, a netbook, that's what I meant Blush

apologies in advance but how does it work? Do I have to "configure" it with my current pc, get it it's own network? I'd rather hoped I could just buy one and switch the "on" button and everything would work .... no?

Do you have wireless broadband? If so then you can basically switch it on and there it is :)

well, this is the thing QED we did have wireless broadband when we had a laptop and then it stopped working and we had to have the laptop plugged in all the time. I'm not sure if this was down to the laptop or our router (?if that makes sense)

yes it's not connected with your pc (though you can connect them for things) you will be able to just turn it on and begin (you may need to log in to your wifi, that should be it)

You'd need a wireless router. If you cannot connect to it then perhaps paying a local geek to come around for an hour to configure your netbook and wifi would be a good idea. That and ensure both computers are up to date with latest patches & antivirus.

might be easier just to keep running back and forth between the two rooms Smile

someone should run courses for us out of touch people - everything seems to be moving so fast these days ipads/twitter/netbooks - or is it just me? I can't even seem to load up my photos without making a pigs ear out of it. Don't even talk to me about try to download films or skype
