I feel like we're not getting full use out of them.

I have a few on my iPhone, but nothing on the Mac really. Every time I go into the App store I just get bamboozled...there are so many, I can't tell what's good and what's not.

Can anyone recommend any good ones?

I've only downloaded a few apps from the Mac App Store. The most helpful thing has probably been EverNote which allows me to share documents across all my devices and is free.

So I can do things like enter train times or shopping lists and have them available on my Mac, my work computer (through a web page), my iOS devices (though the EverNote iOS App) and my non Apple Phone (it's own version of the EverNote App).

I'm also a big fan of Pages which is Apple's Word Processor and you can pick it up for less than a tenner.

It's worth remembering that unlike with iOS devices (phones, pads, etc.) on the Mac you're not limited to just downloading things from the App Store, there are plenty of other places to get things that you need.

The real question is what do you need, and then people can chip in with suggestions of what you can get.

I'm not really sure what I need Grin just looking for inspiration really.

I suppose things to enhance how I spend my time, so cooking, basic photography, organising 'stuff'!

Would quite like something to help with organising/keeping track of my finances, some sort of log where I can note all expenditures would be useful. We're trying to sort our spending so every day I'm jotting down everything we spend (down to a coffee, or £1 for cooking at school) to get a clearer picture of where our money is going.

I do actually have Evernote, but have never used, will take another look, thank you.

Also some sort of healthy eating fitness 'thing' would be good.

My fitness pal app is probably a good one for healthy eating fitness -enables you to log what you've eaten and exercise done. Agree with Evernote. If you have kids some apps to keep them quiet may be a good idea.

I have the Good Food Guide app on my phone -quite handy if travelling in the UK and want to find somewhere with good food near you.

For photos I've not found any reason to use anything other than iPhoto...

Many iphone apps have a "lite" version which is usually a free trial/cut down version. Enough so you can have a play, get the idea before parting with the money. So i'd start by looking for apps with a free lite version
