RC Speed boats - where can you use them?

Yes, I know this probably isn't the right section of MN for this but can't find the proper one - if there is one! Sorry! Hoped that those attracted to Geeky stuff might also have an idea about these things....

DS10 got a high speed remote control model speed boat for Christmas. It won't switch on unless already in water so we can't test it out and we have no idea where he might be allowed to use it?

It has no speed gradation - so either stop or 30kmph. He's never used one before. We have no obvious lake nearby but there IS a river - but often used for recreational boats along parts of it.

Does anyone know if there are laws against using high speed remote control craft on public rivers? How do we access the boat if it stops midstream?

If anyone knows of a different MN section to direct me to, then please send me there - otherwise, as a long shot, would anyone here know anything at all about using RC speed boats???? Thanks!

I have never seen anyone use one on a river only on ponds, I'm not if if they can even take the waves on anything rougher then a canal.

have you tried googling?

I wouldn't go for a river in case it got swept away!

I was going to say bath or paddling pool but perhaps not if it's so fast.

Try here?

Thanks. Milliways, it looks like our region hasn't got a model boat club. can't use in bath as the boat goes from 0 to 30Kmph straightaway! I've spent ages today googling everything from local ponds to byelaws about using these on rivers and have no helpful info. at all coming through.

Oh dear, it looks as if he may not be able to use it....apparently the propellor blades are too sharp to use in garden liner ponds and also you need a large expanse of water as it only turns in wide arcs and doesn't reverse....I don't think anything other than a v strong current would be a problem though, as it's a v fast speed boat (over 2 ft long).

You could try contacting your district council about whether it is allowed to be used in any rivers?

Or just save it for giving a pet a viking burial at sea.
