I have just downloaded loads of books on to my sisters Kindle. How does she find the books to read them. You can see them on the Kindle on the explorer but she doesn't know how to work the thing and I hate it. I know someone on here will give us step by step instructions. Thankyou.

They should appear in her list when she connects to WiFi.

It is pretty easy to use.

When she wants to read a book, she just scrolls down to highlight it, and then click.

Catsmamma · 26/12/2011 14:50

turn it on, click the home button...all the books should be listed, in order of download

then whichever you are reading will hold the top position.

you can organise them into collections...click menu button and follow instructions.

Wi Fi is on, it said there are no items listed but I just loaded on loads of books. I can see them when it is plugged into the PC so I am sure they are loaded on. Did I mention I hate the thing.

They might be in her archive.

slalomsuki · 26/12/2011 15:08

Might it be that the kindle is not registered to your account and you have downloaded the books and they are showing on the pc but cannot be transferred to the kindle.

deste · 26/12/2011 15:11

There is one book in the archive It has been registered to my account that is why she has taken it home. She lives abroad but I bought it for her last year.

Hmm, when my DDs opened up their Kindles yesterday, the books I already sent to them appeared as soon as the WiFi code was entered.

Try linking it up to your PC using the USB cable.

ArtSingh · 26/12/2011 15:27

I think there is a kindle setup you can do. Mine was set up when I got it and pre registered to my name. I really love it!

amerryscot · 26/12/2011 15:29

They are pre-registered to the purchaser's account when you get them from Amazon. If you buy them from anywhere else, you have to register them to an Amazon account.

Catsmamma · 26/12/2011 15:31

I think each kindle needs its own amazon account, i think if you have ordered these books they will be on your account not hers/the kindle.

deste · 26/12/2011 15:32

Ok I can link it to the Pc and it shows the list of books on the Kindle. When I press the menu I get Turn the wireless off, shop in the kindle store, Go to, and the rest of the menus relate to reading a book. Where do I go from there?

Try rebooting the Kindle. Slide powerswitch and hold whilst counting slowly to ten.

If that does not work, could you run us through the series of events, such as:
Kindle purchased and registered to your amazon UK account.
You used the amazon.co.uk website to purchase books and told it to send to Kindle.
When connecting Kindle to a computer the format of the books is AZW?

amerryscot · 26/12/2011 15:36

No, you can have several Kindles on one Amazon account. I have about 8 or 9 Kindles on mine!

When you download a new book, you do it to a specific Kindle, but it appears in the archive of all other Kindles on the account.

nannynick · 26/12/2011 15:40

What Kindle is it? There are different versions. Does it have a keyboard?

nannynick · 26/12/2011 15:42

Sounds like you have pushed Menu whilst reading a book. To get to the list of books, push Home.

deste · 26/12/2011 15:42

Ok I have to go out now but will go into Amazon when I come back. Thankyou for all the help so far.

I had this problem (as I have 2 kindles registered to my Amazon account). I solved it by going to "manage my kindle" (top right of the screen). When you click on the books in the archive you have the option of "deliver to" and a drop down with the kindle's name (DC1, DC2). Once you click that it will send the book to the kindle.

Ok we are back now and finally managed it. Thankyou to everyone for their help.

Kindle deal of the day - guinness book of records for 2012 is 99p until 11.59 tonight 27/12/2011

here

amerryscot · 27/12/2011 10:31

How did you fix it, op?

deste · 27/12/2011 19:18

The problem was we were not buying books online as we had a sim card with lots of them on it. We gave up and bought a couple of books and they showed up no problem so will work out the sim card later, but thanks for all you help.

OP posts:
nannynick · 27/12/2011 20:09

Books are protected, locked to a specific device - perhaps that's the problem with the books from the SIM card.

Try using Calibre to see what the books on the SIM card are and what protection they have (if any) and what format they are in. Useful read for learning about format conversion. Also see Amazon Kindle Help for how to find the e-mail address for sending files to the Kindle.

deste · 28/12/2011 09:43

We tried to download Calibre but my McAfee told me it was not safe. If you are saying it is safe I will download it again.

OP posts:
nannynick · 28/12/2011 12:04

It's fine - see Calibre Manual. Calibre accepts internet connections to it and out of it, it is a Content Server, thus it can appear to anti virus software that it acts like some types of virus/trojan.

As long as you have downloaded from the Calibre website or sourceforge and not from anywhere else, it will be fine.

As with all software, run it for a while and if you don't like it, then delete it afterwards. If using Windows Vista/Win7 Create a RESTORE POINT before installing, so you can go back to how your system was pre-installing it if you worry about the uninstaller leaving things behind.

deste · 28/12/2011 20:28

Thank you useful information.
