DH dropped his mobile into the pond this morning. It seemed to still be working but then went blank.
I thought it may have just run out of charge as it was low before its swim. After making sure it was dry I charged it but it still won't switch on.
DS said to put it in a bag of rice (due to some dectective show he'd watched), I've done it but any ideas how long for?
Any other suggestions gratefully received! Grin

The standard advice is to take out the battery and let everything dry out. It is bad news to turn it on in its waterlogged state.

mousysantamouse · 10/12/2011 17:35

if it was only this morning keep it switched off, open it up and take battery/card out.
leave it in the rice and try again tomorrow.

hollyonthesleigh · 10/12/2011 17:39

I would live it in the rice for at least 3 days, preferably 5-7 days, resist temptstion to try it too soon.Dh dropped his HTC down the toilet and after a week in rice worked perfectly.

Thanks, I tried to open it this morning but couldn't, was scared to force it.
It's an HTC Wildfire.
Have just tried again, taken battery out but replaced the back as I didn't want rice dust getting into what looked like pretty delicate exposed mechanism. Have put back in rice and will try again tomorrow.

You need to take the back off to let the rice absorb any moisture that is in there,dh,s phone is a wildfire and we had to shake the rice out of it but it did dry the phone out.

SauvignonBlanche · 11/12/2011 17:07

Haven't touched it yet!
Should have asked what sort of rice was best; I was low on Basmati so have put it in an out-of-date bag of Easy cook rice, not very MN Blush!
I should have used Arborio shouldn't I? Grin

I would have taken it all out separately, put in rice, so all the moisture can come out, then also put it in the airing cupboard (assuming you have one).

Ooh a pond, does it have a horrible pond smell to it?

Are you insured?

After reading holly's post above I took it ouot of the rice and took the back off.
Haven't got a airing cupboard, sadly.
No way am I sniffing it but I'll definately be throwing the rice out!
