a port thingy for transferring photos. My father says that he can do it from his mac though will only be able to email me a few photos at a time in batches, which will obv take forever. Is there a more practical solution? I tried Snappy Snaps who said that they could burn them on a CD for a fiver. Yet, it is only a quick fix solution as the same problem could arise in a few months time and I cannot keep forking out.

I though I could buy a camera phone with good quality images but I know very little about them (have not really been keeping up with technology).

I wish I could have one of those photobucket type facilities so I could try and sell some stuff.

I know this all sounds pathetic but does anybody have any ideas?

By not having a port, do you mean it has no USB slots... sounds unlikely? What you need is a USB card reader that you can just plug the memory card into then slot into the USB port. What type of card does your camera take - I'll see if I can find a cheap card reader that would work and link it for you.

If it's an SD card that your camera has, this would do the trick: Fujifilm USB SD Card - cheaper than your first burned CD from Snappy Snaps :)

It must have I have a mac and have lots of ports

SoupDragon · 05/12/2011 12:11

Don't most cameras transfer via a USB cable that comes with the camera?

Sevenfold · 05/12/2011 12:12

do you mean you can't put the memory card in anywhere?
could you not use a USB cable?(thats what I di)

BadgersPaws · 05/12/2011 12:14

I'll echo the comments that most cameras connect to the computer using a USB cable and you don't directly connect the card. I don't think the card has ever come out of my camera...

noddyholder · 05/12/2011 12:15

My mac does leads and you can put memory card in.

petersham · 05/12/2011 12:43

It's a G4 - possibly G3 even. I really should know that much! However, the camera is a modren Sony one so it would have whatever is necessary. I guess what I have been told is that the computer does not have a USB port?

iMac G3 port panel looks like you do :)

RubberDuck · 05/12/2011 12:48

Or if you mean the laptop G3/G4 here's an image of the ports from Apple's site:

Macs have had USB ports since the dawn of time :) My 1996 PowerPC had USB ports. RubberDuck speaketh the truth.

BadgersPaws · 05/12/2011 12:54

I think it would have to be a very old Mac not to have a USB port...

If RubberDuck hasn't hit the nail with one of the links above exactly what model of Mac is it? Is it a desktop? A laptop?

petersham · 05/12/2011 13:56

Right I've had a look - it is a Power Mac D4 desktop. So assuming it is possible which hole do I go for and how? I would say that this computer has it's limitations, I cannot even get an up to date version of Flas to run on it so I cannot watch documentaries.. I guess that's another thread.

You are looking for a socket with this symbol next to it: USB logo

BadgersPaws · 05/12/2011 14:05

One of these then:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Mac_G4

All of those are listed as having USB ports so you should be able to connect the camera to them.

"I cannot even get an up to date version of Flas to run on it"

No, and I don't think that there's much that you can do about that. Older macs with Power PC processors are often no longer supported by recent software.

BadgersPaws · 05/12/2011 14:10

If your Mac doesn't look like RubberDuck's link then this one should help identify exactly which model it is and then the port can be pointed out:
