getting dd an iPad, partly as I'm fed up with her cluttering mine up with smurfs etc.

Now I'm planning to set her up with her own iTunes account as she's now at an age where she wants to start downloading music, etc. She's getting an iPod for Xmas of her own. Now her new iTunes account won't have all the smurfs, etc on it. Can I connect the new iPad to my laptop and my iTunes account when I first get it and put some apps on it from my iTunes account?

Then can I change the iTunes account that is synced with the iPad?

Yes - you just use the same iTunes account and add the apps that you want onto the 2nd device. You don't need a 2nd account - and easier to keep an eye on what she is downloading. I have an iPod an iPod Touch and an iPad all running off one account. They all have different things on them.

If you open a 2nd account - you will lose the items you purchased on the first account when you next sync. Otherwise everyone would be able to share apps/music without paying for them....

I definitely want her to have a second account so her music downloads don't sync onto my iPod.

I've won a £500 John Lewis voucher so will get it from there. I'm thinking of waiting till spring to see if iPad 3 is released. Dd,s birthday is in. March so could work out well.

Just use the same account but in the account tell it not to sync her apps so you don't end up with all her stuff then you can share films etc we have an iPad, 2 iPhones and iPod touch and my friends kids iPod touches on mine so we can all have films without buying them again

Ah. Might have to pay for them again then. I think most of them are free and then she has some cheap 89p type ones so not the end of the world.

Yes, you can have two iTunes accounts - the only time it can be an issue is when you need to update apps. Ive had to sign in with the other account to do some of them but its really not a problem.

The other thing is that, if you install "Wheres My Ipod/ipad/iphone", it is linked to an iTunes account and I think it can cause problems if you're logged into another account but you can set it up for both Apple IDs. I think its essential to install this on a child's iThing BTW.

"If you open a 2nd account - you will lose the items you purchased on the first account when you next sync."

I'm not sure this is entirely true as DSs iTouches have stuff from my iTunes account and stuff from their fathers. I'm sure I've synched with no trouble. Although I can't remember when I last did it!

Wheres my iPod doesn't work if your child has lost the bloody thing in the house. Or if its switched off. [sigh]
