which Phone and broadband contract, if not BT?

Our BT contract is about to expire and we're thinking of not renewing with them again - basically because our broadband is sometimes slow in the evenings.
Thing is, if we change providers, would this have any effect on broadband speed.
Also, is there a website (like compare.com) where we can input details and compare deals?

TIA

Well I'm with Primus for my phone line purely because we rarely use it at all. In fact the only reason we have it is just for broadband.

I would never recommend anyone uses BT unless they have very light requirements purely because of their cost and cap size.

USwitch can help you compare different providers but the devil is in the detail really.

Personally I recommend BeThere for broadband and I've been a loyal customer for five years. They are a bit more expensive but I've a lifetime discount now for £12 a month forever because i've been with them for so long. I've also heard good things about www.plus.net but the thing I love about BeThere is there are no limits, so no need to worry at all about getting charged more.

As for speed, changing suppliers will not have a real effect on your maximum speed. Not unless you go to say Virgin and move away from ADSL. However, your experience may be different because of contention ratios. Basically you may find things slow during peak times because lots of other people are using BT. Whereas I'm the one of the few ppl in my area using BeThere so I almost always get top speed.

Bundling is almost always cheapest but it really depends on what you need.

Have you checked BT's website to see if you are in a BT Infinity area? (super fast broadband)

Thanks for the tip on BT Infinity - we've signed up as it was only 60p more than what we're paying now!
Fingers crossed it will make our broadband faster.
