I don't know anything about the ipod, but are you sure it's your wifi it is connecting to? I can detect about nine different ones where I live and some are the same model router as mine so it looks confusing.

GypsyMoth · 16/04/2011 17:25

disconnect, then reconnect again...put password in again

goodbyemrschips · 16/04/2011 17:27

I have disconnected it and started again. No good.

There are about five I can connect to and mine has a tick next to it so I assume it is right.

Also the icon is whirring on the ipod to show it is connected.

Any ideas welcome, I am sure it is something small and I will kick myself when I discover it.

go into settings and check....

mine used to do this occasionally.....righted itself tho

chopchopbusybusy · 16/04/2011 17:54

Switch off the iPod and switch back on again. I had similar with my iPhone and it worked. if that doesn't work synch the iPod and then do the switch off and on again.

goodbyemrschips · 16/04/2011 18:33

Done all that...no good.........

are you using safari to get online?

or an app?

GypsyMoth · 16/04/2011 18:36

you could try an ipod forum....lots of knowledgable people there

GypsyMoth · 16/04/2011 18:36

have you plugged it into computer yet....no idea why i think that might work!! just that its details all come up

goodbyemrschips · 16/04/2011 19:45

I think I have tried everything, I must be missing something.

Went to apple ipod forum and its only down due to maintenance.....

Who set your wifi password up? I am wondering if they have enabled something called MAC address filtering?

goodbyemrschips · 16/04/2011 20:49

mmmmmm I set it up with the help of help desk many years ago.........I have it written in my little book...........

You say "Also the icon is whirring on the ipod to show it is connected."

What icon is this? There should be a little signal strength icon next to the iPod text in the top left. It should look like little ripples or waves, it shouldn't be "whirring".

Go to "Settings" / "WIFI"

Is your network the one with the tick next to it?

Click the little arrow on the right hand side of the row that has the tick. Another screen should come up with DHCP selected and highlighted blue.

What is the value for the IP address?

goodbyemrschips · 18/04/2011 21:09

badgers..............My son has the i pod now so its not here........but please check back on this thread when you have the time and I will try and answer the question.

Check the date is correct.

Dd's friend had the same predicament and couldn't get hers connected to the internet.

I messed about for ages trying to sort it, when I spotted that the date was wrong (was 1979 or something bizarre like that).

When I corrected the date, hey presto, it worked.

I have no idea how or why Confused but it did Grin

goodbyemrschips · 19/04/2011 08:52

badgers...............Nothing comes up for the ip address.

If there's no address then the iPod is not connected to your WIFI.

Are there any values for Subnet Mask, Router or DNS?

The first and most obvious thing is, as NiceGuy2 has suggested, that your WIFI network has MAC address security set up. You'd need to access the configuration page for your router and look around for something referring to wireless security and access control or MAC filtering.

You can either turn that off or add your iPod's MAC address to the list of allowed gadgets (which is what I'd recommend doing).

The MAC address for your iPod can be found at Settings / General / About and then you'll see it as "Wi-Fi address", it'll be a string of six two digit characters separated by colons, e.g. 12:34:56:79:9A:BC

By "address" do you mean the admin web page for the router? Which you're viewing through a web browser on a computer that can connect to the internet?

Exactly how to do it will depend on what router you have but in general you're looking for the access control bit that might even mention a list of allowed devices.

If you can give the exact model for your router someone will probably know where to look, but without that all we can do is offer general advice on the sort of thing you're looking for.

goodbyemrschips · 20/04/2011 08:35

Ok Thanks for all your help have a techy pal coming over today hopefully it can be sorted.
