I've been sent a form that I need to complete but it is in pdf.
How do I enter text onto it? Am I being completely useless in not being able to do it?!

Thanks

If it is a pdf file, you won't be able to enter text onto it. You willl have to print it out and write it on with an old-fashioned pen thingy.

you cant. That is the whole point of a pdf. It cannot be altered so it is safest way of sending a document.

It is how I send my invoices, for instance. If I sent a Word document they could change the amount and pay me less :-)

Aha - I'm sure I remember writing text one day on a pdf which is why it confused me.
It's a job application form and I want to type rather than write by hand so will ask them to resend as a word doc.
Thanks :o

Not true, PDFs can be set up so that you can edit in them.

However that's not supported by all PDF readers. Probably your best bet is to make sure that you've got the latest version of Adobe's own PDF reader from here: get.adobe.com/uk/reader/

That way if the PDF is editable you should then be able to edit it.

Thanks BP - I've just downloaded the latest version and no change so probably not set up to be edited...

You need Adobe Professional Version, but I think that is expensive, I used to have it at work.

Tee2072 · 15/04/2011 21:24

As Bagder said, the PDF would have to have been created with editable fields to be able to type on it.

And if it is set up correctly, you don't need Acrobat Pro but just Acrobat Reader.

Sounds like it was created to print and fill in with pen.

No you don't. The professional version will let you edit many PDFs, but if they have been created with editable fields (which is a relatively new feature) then you can edit them in just the free reader and don't need the pro version.

However it sounds like this is either an older PDF or created using something that can't make editable fields.

Sorry for just jumping on this thread, but can I just ask if anyone knows why I can't print out a PDF file?

Have been trying to print a holiday booking form but the print button is in the light grey writing, rather than black that you can click on?

Sorry OP!

"Sorry for just jumping on this thread, but can I just ask if anyone knows why I can't print out a PDF file?"

Can we have a bit more information on what Operating System you're using (Windows, if so which version, or a Mac perhaps?)?

Also what are you trying to print the PDFs with? Are they in a browser? Adobe's reading tool?
