I have an mp3 player and have downloaded from tesco as i like tesco points. however its a total of about 10 songs over a couple of years!! DD now has an ipod and wants to download bigstyle. Itunes seems the easiest as she can do it on her ipod without even involving the computer. However i had credit left on tesco account and she has downloaded from here and got it onto her ipod. Itunes seems most expensive(?). Which site do you all use?

Amazon is easy.

I use iTunes, Amazon and you tube.

I have also uploaded most of my cds. About another 200 to do!!

I also get the odd download from planet rock and sometimes from the artists own site.

I like Amazon too. I usually add to my basket, as and when I remember a tune I want, then download them all on payday!

I recently got told about Iomoio, which seems really really cheap. I think you have to pre-load it with money though, but maybe you could do that for her once every so often. Then you can't download more than you've pre-payed iyswim.
I'm planning to set myself up for it, but haven't quite got round to it yet, so can't give first-hand review.

Amazon works out tons cheaper because it's one of the few that doesn't restrict your purchase to one user.

Whenever I buy a download, DH usually wants it too, and then my brother and sister usually pile in, but we never have to pay more than once.

Do you have an external hard drive? If not, get one. You can easily end up with a lot of money 'invested' in your music downloads, which is no good if your computer dies.

"Amazon works out tons cheaper because it's one of the few that doesn't restrict your purchase to one user."

I don't think that most music sites restrict their sales in that way any more. iTunes certainly used to but they stopped doing that some time ago.

But do remember that there's a fine line between letting someone else listen to your music and giving other people perfect copies of it which is copyright theft and hurts the artist who made the music.

I use Amazon although I do weigh up the cost difference between an Amazon MP3 download and simply buying the CD and copying that onto my computer.

Starbear · 17/03/2011 10:37

I can't even figure out how to get the music from itunes on to my new Sony MP3 player! But i'll startt another thread on that! Blush

snice · 17/03/2011 10:39

use the tool on MoneySavingExpert which tells you the chapest place to buy any particular tune

FoJo · 17/03/2011 13:56

snice, i saw that, but then i thought that it would be a hassle to be buying from different sites all of the time, is there not 'stuff' to download first whenever you use a site for the first time?

Starbear, its very much trial and error with me, quite frankly it often seems to happen almost by itself and I sometimes dont have a lot to do with it!!

DH uses MP3aim which is v v cheap but you have to pre-pay a chosen amount(e.g. $10). It works out at about 12p a track or possibly even less, I forget.
