HTC Wildfire - have I chosen right phone?

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Got this last week and have till Tues till decide to keep or swop. Trying to keep costs down (£15/month vodafone), so didn't go for Desire. Swopped from old phone because want access to email and a little bit of internet when out (not facebook, twitter etc). Signed up for 2 years - want to make sure right phone (can't afford iphone!)

Wildfire definitely fun to use, quick to pick up, but I'm finding the screen tiny. OK for text and emails in landscape - just about - but can't easily use internet. Eg mumsnet, tiny font, I zoom in but inevitably I don't get to right place, or the wrong link opens. Am I expecting too much - do others use internet much from android? - or am I fumble fingered beginner and will get better?

Other naive questions if you get this far:

  • can I access yahoo email contacts?
  • emails sent from mob are not copied into sent directory when I look on PC; can I alter settings so they are copied?
  • how easy is it to download from i-tunes or radio? I know there's a free app I need but wil it be hard work for a non technical type?

Thanks.

I have a wildfire but don't use it much for browsing for reasons you've stated. However, probably best smartphone for what you (and i).
Have you looked for yahoo mail app? I use gmail which works best as android is google.
Not sure about last question sorry.

I use Mumsnet all the time on mine. I just press once on the screen and then scroll left if necessary

I don't know anything about your questions though sorry,

I love it!

I bought a Wildfire for my GF. It is a good budget phone and you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Unless you are willing to pay a lump sum or up your monthly rate to about £25 a month then you won't get a Desire.

To be honest smartphones are ok for occasional use but its not something you want to use regularly for Internet access.

I must admit I do find the phone a bit slow but when you look at the price, I don't think you can beat it. Well perhaps the Orange San Francisco but thats about the same screen resolution.

As for Yahoo email, i think there's an app for it. Have a look in the app market.

Thanks all, I will look at the yahoo mail app, sounds like that'll sort out the email Qs.

And Ben10, after reading your post I went back into mumsnet and had no probs at all - I will be able to use it for a little bit of mumsnetting. Niceguy - you've summed it up for me.

Decided to keep it - for the money it's fab. And fun.

Still interested if anyone can feed back re downloading from itunes.

iTunes is for Apple phones. You should get Amazon MP3 app. Its often cheaper too if I remember correctly.

I have a Wildfire, for the same reason - wanted a desire really, but didn't want to pay upwards of £25 pm. I actually am beginning to love it very much indeed, and like that it's compact overall.

Browsing - double tap zooms in to the perfect size for reading and linking. I used to use the iphone style 'stretch' with fingers and yes, it would be too big or wrong place - and then my dd (7) picked it up and intuitively double tapped!

I have an app called Easy Phone Tunes - it doesn't let you download from iTunes but does mean you can get stuff from your iTunes library on your computer on to your phone. It did require setting up but I just followed the instructions and it wasn't too hard.

Great everyone - double tap - yeh! Keeping the phone, me too, really liking it. thanks all
